Description: " Night time. Absolute quietness, no life on the streets. Suddenly two artists arrive and invade a multi-art venue. In the grand concert hall João performs a solo work for piano and in the main gallery space Mário displays a drawing installation. They both retire. Not a trace of evidence remains" .ASSAULT © 2008 ASSAULT is a long-term collaborative project by two London based emerging artists, concert pianist João Lima Duque and visual artist Mário Pires Cordeiro. The ASSAULT is a filmed performance project in which the artists "invade" venues of high cultural standing at night to show their work - a visual art installation and a solo work for piano. Each year two filmed performances will be made in two different countries, supported by a range of related public dissemination activities. Each year two filmed performances will be made in two different countries, supported by a range of related public dissemination activities. The first ASSAULTS will take place in 2009 in the UK at the Royal Albert Hall. The ASSAULT highlights the difficulties that emerging artists face to have their work viewed by the wider public. It explores the "moment" that an artist´s work becomes compatible with the interior world of a mainstream institution. In the UK, the RAH has agreed to take part as part of their Emerging Artists Programme. The Portuguese performance is being made at the Gulbenkian Foundation Headquarters in Lisbon in August 2009 and subsequent exhibition at the National Museum of Natural History, Lisbon.
Description: To celebrate the new relationship between artists and local community in Deptford, the Multi-Pavilion is inspired by Buckminster Fuller´s writings (specifically the work "Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth") and by the traditional Pavilion, usually a free-standing structure sited a short distance from a main residence, whose architecture makes it also an object of pleasure. There is usually a connection with relaxation and pleasure in its intended use.
