Concerts at the Consort Café

Concerts at the Consort Café.  If you find yourself in need of a classy pick-me up during Friday lunchtimes, you could do a lot worse than pop down to the Royal Albert Hall for one of their free "Ignite" lunchtime concerts at the Consort Café.  On selected Fridays between 12-1:30pm the RAH invite various Jazz outfits to entertain their diners.  The venue gets full quite quickly so arrive early to avoid disappointment (as I had to learn the hard way).
Last Friday it was the turn of Eric Gilchrist and his quartet (Nigel Fox on piano, Harvey Weston - double bass, Les Serkel on drums, and Gilchrist on alto sax and vocals) to perform an enjoyable set of jazz interpretations.  Their repertoire included classics by the likes of Gershwin and Nat King Cole.
These lunchtime gigs are a lovely early afternoon treat to help get you into weekend mode.  December 2009 will be quiet due to the many festive activities taking place at the RAH.  Don’t fear, however; the "Ignite" shows will return early in the New Year.
