MGMT´s highly anticipated second album is set to be released in spring and has been inspired by none other than Lady Gaga and Kayne West.
Frontman of the band Andrew VanWyngarden said that the songs in "Congratulations" deal with the duo´s reaction to fame.
He said- "We became the people that we made fun of in Oracular Spectacular."
In fact, the singer and his band mate Ben Golwasser experienced the thrill of fame while touring on their first album "Oracular Spectacular", a worldwide success owed to the band´s hippy attitude of non conformism and their peculiar psychedelic and electronic sound.
"On some of the new songs, I found myself thinking about
Lady GaGa or
Kanye West;, and what their ultimate goal is," he added. "This sounds cheesy, but for us it´s really just about the music and getting people to hear what we have to say. I´m sure it´s about the music for those people, too… but fame… it´s an interesting career."
To redeem themselves, they also wrote songs about surfing and told the press that they don´t intend on releasing any singles from the new album.
